Five Ways to Day Trip Tulum

Tulum is an easy day trip from any of the Real Club Resorts. When planning a day trip for you and your family take time to think about how you will be best accommodated. There is so much to do and see in Tulum and the Mayan Riviera, make sure that you get the most out of your vacation time by fully considering your day trip options.

1. Take the tour

There are many tour companies that have wonderful day trips to Tulum. Most of them include lunch and beverages along the way. Some of the Tulum day tours stop to shop or go to another point of interest along the way. Shop around! There are plenty of tours to choose from, find the one that suits your interests and your budget. The advantage of going with a tour is having a guide explain the incredible history of the fascinating ruins of Tulum. The disadvantage is that you may not get to spend the time you would like in any one place since you have to stick with the group.

2. Rent a Car

Renting a car for the day is easy and a great way to have complete control over your day trip, especially if traveling as a family. You can stop as many times as you like along the way and you can explore places that buses and tours don’t usually stop. Take a detour to see a cenote, go to the archeological site of Coba not too far from Tulum or drive into the Sian Ka’an reserve to explore the fantastic coast line just south of Tulum. The advantage is that you have complete control of your time and your route. The disadvantage is that you have to drive and pay attention to the map.

3. Bus it from Cancun or Playa del Carmen

For less than 10USD you can easily hop an air-conditioned bus from Cancun or Playa del Carmen. The buses are equipped with bathrooms, have comfortable seating and play movies to help pass the time. Tulum is about 2 hours from Cancun by bus and about an hour from Playa del Carmen. You can have a big day exploring the ruins and beaches of Tulum on a small budget. The advantage to taking the bus is that you can spend as much time at the ruins, the beach or shopping in town as you please. The disadvantage is that you are dependent on the bus schedule for leave times and are not able to make stops along the way.

4. Join a Travel Group

Spend as much time at the archeological site or playing on the beach as you want. While you’re at it, have a couple of margaritas while in town since you don’t have to worry about driving. The disadvantage could be making decisions as a group, when to leave, where to stop along the way, etc…

5. Do a Circut

There are so many things to do and see along the Mayan Riviera, why not turn your day trip into a two or three day circuit? Whether you rent a car, a van with a group or take the bus, you could map out a route which would take you to see various cenotes, archeological sites, colonial churches, small towns and many other fascinating points of interest. Some tour companies have two and three day circuit trips available. Why spend only one day exploring Tulum when you could explore Tulum and the surrounding areas? Get a real feel for this amazing part of Mexico, its people and history while spending two days touring. The advantage is getting to know more of Mexico than you would on a day trip. The disadvantage is that a two or three day excursion takes away from the rest of your vacation plans and drastically cuts into your time by the pool at the Real Resorts Cancun.
